Eric Rondepierre - From Loupe/dourmers series

In this series Eric Rondepierre breaks with his usual procedure of sampling and ‘reprising views.’ He composes his images himself using digital technology. The photographs were composed using the artist’s  novel ‘Dormeurs’. The 156,000 keystrokes of this fiction were used to bitmap the image, and can be made out when one looks more closely. Each of the eleven photographs contains the whole book.

Eric Rondepierre, Annonces series (vidéo)

The Annonces, or advertising texts on trailers (titles and credits, slogans, commentaries) flit quickly over the screen. The artist slows down the film on the VCR or on the editing desk in order to choose a frame in which the text is not yet legible, and forms a blot in the middle of the image. All the marks are created using the same technical procedure, but there are differences in terms of frame, source and number of pieces. The eleven images in the annonces vidéo series were captured from a television screen. In the annonces peintures, the image was manually reproduced in paint by projecting it onto a large canvas. The resulting painting was photographed and then destroyed. The series comprises 9 pieces. The annonces films were taken directly from the reel of film. This series comprises 9 pieces.

Eric Rondepierre, Moires series

This series of thirty pieces continues the procedure of the Précis de décomposition. Again, these are images that have become corroded over time. The frames come from colorized films in the Montreal archives. The choice centres on the body and intimacy, and the ‘justified’ titles relate directly to the image.

Eric Rondepierre, Moins X series

“Moins X” concludes the work of taking cuts between two frames of film begun with “Diptyka” and “Suites”. This series from 2003 includes only images from X movies. The chaos of the images echoes that of the bodies. The artist’s only intervention was to remove the colour. The series comprises eleven black-and-white photographs.

He photographed the resulting anomalies (erasures, deformations, blotches). Scènes comprises 18 pieces and shows characters in action. Masques comprises eleven pieces and shows faces in close-up. In Cartons the texts of the intertitle cards of silent movies has been corroded. This series comprises thirty pieces.
